Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
I am campaigning for meaningful reform of the SEND system in Warwickshire, where too many families are being let down. This means securing more specialist school places, ensuring reliable home-to-school transport, and tackling unacceptable delays in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Every child with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities deserves timely, appropriate support, and I am pressing for the changes needed to make that a reality.
I have raised these issues in Parliament.
Please see my spoken contributions on:
I have submitted parliamentary questions to the Department for Education.
“To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps she is taking to improve SEND provision in Stratford-on-Avon constituency.”
Please see the full question and answer here.
“To ask the Secretary of State for Education, if she will make it her policy to extend home-to-school transport for SEND students to include those in post-16 education.”
Please see the full question and answer here.
“To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to the Answer of 31 March 2025 to Question 40830 on Dyslexia: Screening, how she plans to use the £1 billion provided for high needs budgets in the 2025-26 financial year.”
I am taking direct action, locally.
I convene quarterly SEND Forums with constituents to hear directly from families, carers and young people about the challenges they are experiencing, and to explore how we can drive improvements at both a local and national level. These Forums are attended by the WCC Head of SEND, who responds to questions about local provision and ongoing developments. In addition, my office provides day-to-day support to constituents, helping them navigate the local SEND system and access the assistance to which they are entitled. Please get in touch with my office if you would like to attend a SEND forum.
I am working for SEND children on the Education Select Committee.
As a member of the Education Select Committee, I have worked with my colleagues to produce a report on the SEND crisis.
