Pension Injustices

I am campaigning to end pension injustice, including working with campaigns such as the Midland Clawback Campaign, and standing in solidarity with the WASPI women.

Pension Injustices

I stand with the Midlands Clawback Campaign, WASPI women, NARPO's ‘love or money’ campaign, and with those affected by pre-1997 pension inequalities. For too long, changes to pension policy have been poorly communicated and unfairly implemented, leaving many people - particularly women and long-serving workers - financially disadvantaged through no fault of their own. I continue to push for fair transitional arrangements, proper compensation where injustice has occurred, and a pensions system that treats people with dignity and respect.

Pension Schemes Bill

I saw the introduction of the Pensions Schemes Bill as a crucial opportunity to influence legislation and address long-standing pension injustices. I submitted amendments to strengthen protections for terminally ill pensioners, to support the divestment of pension funds from fossil fuels, and co-sponsored an amendment tackling wider pension injustices, including those affecting women and long-serving workers. My focus has been on ensuring that the bill delivers fairness, dignity and security for today’s pensioners, not just better outcomes for the future.

My amendments sought to ensure that terminally ill pensioners are not forced to navigate unnecessary bureaucracy to access their pensions, and that pension schemes are required to take meaningful steps towards divestment from fossil fuels in line with climate commitments.

I also co-sponsored an amendment aimed at preventing future pension injustices by strengthening oversight, consistency and accountability across pension schemes, learning the lessons of scandals such as the WASPI injustice and historic clawback schemes.

You can read my contribution to the Pension Schemes Debate, here.

As the Pension Schemes Bill progresses through the House of Lords, I am now co-ordinating with Liberal Democrats peers to push for these amendments.
