Extend Minor Injuries Unit Hours

Local urgent care services are under significant pressure, and residents across Stratford-on-Avon are feeling the impact. It is essential that the Minor Injuries Unit in Stratford-upon-Avon operates for longer hours, as this would play a crucial role in reducing A&E waiting times and easing the strain on Warwick Hospital, which is often overwhelmed. I have been raising this issue publicly, supporting coverage in outlets such as the BBC and the Leamington Observer which highlight the need for extended opening hours. I have also written to the ICB CEO, Simon Trickett, to press for the reopening and strengthening of local services, and I will continue to push for the accessible, reliable urgent care that our community deserves. Please read that letter here.

Cancer Care

Too many people are facing long waits for cancer diagnosis and treatment, and I have heard from many constituents who have experienced unacceptable delays in their care. Improving treatment times and ensuring timely access to services must be a priority.

 Alongside this, early detection remains vital, particularly for conditions such as prostate cancer where outcomes improve significantly with early diagnosis.

Following a visit to the South Warwickshire Prostate Cancer Support Group, I raised the experiences of local residents directly with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, underlining both the need for faster treatment and better access to testing.

I am also working with local councillors to promote regular prostate cancer screening, including the scheme subsidised by Stratford-on-Avon District Council. With further testing initiatives planned locally, efforts will continue to ensure that more people are able to access timely checks and life-saving care.
