Healthcare needs to be local

We need to extend the hours of Stratford's Minor Injuries Unit

Our minor injuries unit could be treating thousands more patients. So why is it only open three days a week?

In my Stratford-on-Avon constituency, we have a fantastic community hospital with a minor injuries unit - but it's only open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with reduced hours on top of that.

I raised this directly in Parliament. Extending opening hours at minor injuries units would treat more patients locally, and take real pressure off A&E departments at our acute hospitals.

It's a simple fix with a big impact. Let's make it happen.

Extend Stratford Minor Injuries Unit!

The minor injuries unit at Stratford Hospital is currently open only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 09:00 and 16:00.

Liberal Democrat MP Manuela Perteghella, alongside local Liberal Democrat councillors, are calling for the local Integrated Care Board and South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust to work together to extend the number of days the unit is open. Nobody plans a minor injury, so being open 3 days a week is not sufficient enough to adequately treat our community.

Making better use of existing facilities is one of the most practical ways to reduce unnecessary pressure on an already overstretched A&E department.

This is about making better use of a facility that already exists, in a way that benefits patients locally and offers relief to over stretched services.

Support our Community Hospitals

Our community hospitals are under threat and I'm not willing to let that continue.

In Stratford-on-Avon, the Ellen Badger Hospital in Shipston-on-Stour has served our community over a hundred years. But the local NHS board has removed its in-patient beds that helped patients recover close to home after leaving hospital, instead of far away from their loved ones.

I'm calling on the Government to properly invest in community hospitals - they relieve pressure on overstretched A&E departments, and they keep care close to where people live.

Care closer to home shouldn't just be a promise. It should be a reality.

Fair Funding for our Hospices

Hospices

I am fighting for fair funding for our hospices.

We are lucky to have many wonderful hospices in Stratford-on-Avon, that are run by fantastic, talented and caring people, but they cannot run without funding. That is why I have been calling on the government to introduce a sustainable funding plan for hospices. Please see the letter I wrote in 2024 to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care on this issue here, and a more recent joint letter here.

I will continue to work closely with the hospices of our constituency and fight to get them fairer funding.
